Helen O’Neil was elected to Council in 2021 as an endorsed candidate and re-elected in 2024.
Helen currently serves as Chair of the ACT’s Cultural Facilities Corporation.
She has a long record of achievement in public policy reform and advocacy in the cultural industries, with previous roles as Chair of South East Arts, Chair of Performing Arts Connection Australia, Australian head of the British Council, CEO of the Australian Major Performing Arts Group and manager of the Advanced Media Unit of News Ltd.
She was also Deputy Chief of Staff to the Australian Minister for Regional Australia, Local Government and the Arts.
Helen holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School, and was a journalist with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Her community interests include affordable housing, climate change, sustainable finances, and improvements to planning.
Helen lives in Cuttagee with her husband Stephen Mills and has two adult children Janet and Christopher.
