It’s time to load up the trailer with household or garden waste and head to your nearest waste and recycling centre before Bega Valley Shire Council’s free waste vouchers expire at the end of July.

New vouchers will be issued soon after, but existing vouchers will no longer be redeemable after the 31 July expiry date.

Council’s acting Waste Strategy Coordinator, Rechelle Fisher said a last-minute rush to redeem vouchers happens every year.

“Waiting in line at your nearest waste transfer station isn’t the best way to while away your weekend,” Ms Fisher said.

“Now is a good time to get the trailer loaded with household or garden waste and beat the queues we always see in the last couple of weekends of July.

“No waste? No problem. Turn up with your waste voucher and a small empty trailer and we’ll fill it for free with FOGO compost.

“Our free waste vouchers can be used for bulky items too. Each voucher, for example, can be used to drop off a fridge or a couch or an inner-spring mattress.”

Ms Fisher said most people will find their free waste vouchers on their smartphones, using the Bega Valley Waste App.

“Last year we moved towards a paperless voucher system and many people are now enjoying the convenience of having easily accessible vouchers that don’t get lost in a pile of bills at home.

“However, if you opted to keep receiving paper vouchers last year, you don’t need to take any further steps—your paper voucher will arrive in the post as before.”

Free waste vouchers can be used to drop off half a cubic metre of general domestic waste at any waste and recycling centre.

Vouchers can also be used to drop off one cubic metre of garden waste at Merimbula, Eden, Bermagui and Wallagoot waste and recycling centres, or to collect a cubic meter of FOGO compost.
