Bega Valley Shire Council is continuing its commitment to people living with a disability in our community, through a series of monthly information sessions explaining the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Council has provided disability services since 1992 and is well regarded by the people it supports every day.

Change is here though with the NDIS rolling out now in the Bega Valley Shire.

It’s a change that will empower people to purchase specific services from the provider they choose, giving clients more control over their care.

People living with a disability will receive individual funding packages that reflect their personal goals, rather than the Government directly funding disability support organisations.

Under the NDIS, it is expected that more local people will be eligible to receive disability support services, and much more Government spending will go towards these supports.

“It’s natural for people to feel overwhelmed by the change which is why Council is stepping in to help,”

Council’s NDIS Project Officer, Angelique McKechnie said.

“Come along to one of our info sessions for face to face advice on anything NDIS,” Ms McKechnie said.

Council’s NDIS Project Officer can provide advice about:

  • NDIS rollout timeframes
  • How to find out about eligibility for the NDIS
  • What types of services participants may be able to access under this scheme
  • How to register for the NDIS
  • The types of NDIS services that Council can offer, including Support Coordination (case management) and having a Financial Plan Intermediary, where Council’s Disability Team can undertake financial management of a person’s plan to reduce the administrative burden.

The monthly NDIS information sessions will take place at Eden and Tura Marrang Libraries

on the first Friday of every month, including this Friday 2 September.

No bookings are needed, just drop into Tura Marrang Library between 9.30am to 1pm, or the Eden Library from 2pm to 5pm.

Interested community members can simply turn up any time during the drop in sessions to receive one-on-one support and information.

For more information call Angelique McKechnie on 6499 2275.
