NSW Health has advised that the boil water notice for the Brogo-Bermagui water supply system can be lifted, based on the most recent river turbidity level and Council’s management of the supply system.
Monday 27 June 2016
NSW Health has advised that the boil water notice for the Brogo-Bermagui water supply system can be lifted, based on the most recent river turbidity level and Council’s management of the supply system.
The lifting of the boil water notice occurs immediately. Water from the tap no longer needs to be boiled for any purpose.
The boil water notice was introduced on Wednesday 8 June 2016 for the Brogo-Bermagui water supply system as a precautionary measure upon advice from NSW Health concerning elevated turbidity levels in the river water following heavy catchment rainfall. Conditions for lifting the boil water notice were established by NSW Health at the time.
BVSC Manager of Water and Sewerages Services, Jim Collins said the river water had continued to clear since the rain to a level where NSW Health and BVSC are satisfied that the water supply system can be managed safely without the need for people to boil water.
“We understand the inconvenience caused by having to boil tap water and we would like to express our appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of all people affected since the boil water notice was introduced,” he said.
“The Brogo-Bermagui water supply system is an unfiltered water supply system with water disinfected with chlorine only.
“We will now be planning further discussions with NSW Health and other State Government agencies about the future management of our water supply systems and the availability of financial assistance for the construction of water filtration plants,” Mr Collins said.
