Council facilitates the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) who are responsible for the formation of plans in relation to the prevention of, preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies in the Bega Valley.
Emergencies can occur within communities due to the impact of a wide variety of man-made and natural events. In accordance with the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act (SERM Act) Council has a role to play in assisting the emergency services community managing these emergency events.

Effective emergency planning is the key to minimising the cost and effects of emergencies after all reasonable risk reduction measures have been taken.
