Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking community feedback on eight Council policies, in line with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993.

CEO Anthony McMahon said Council currently has a total of 62 policies covering the breadth of its operations.

“While the review is a procedural requirement, it’s also a good opportunity to make sure Council policies provide clear information about what the community can expect in their interactions with Council and the way decisions are made,” Mr McMahon said.

“While some of the policies require minor amendments, other policies will include newly endorsed procedures.

“For example, the Enforcement and Compliance Policy includes implementing body-worn cameras for our compliance officers.”

The policies are being reviewed in batches and then placed on public exhibition for 28 days. Submissions on these policies will be accepted from the community for 42 days.

If submissions are received during the public exhibition period, they will be presented back to Council with staff recommendations before the final policy is adopted.

Policies on public exhibition are:

  • Asset Management
  • Cemeteries and Memorials
  • Companion Animal Management
  • Dedication of Public Land
  • Enforcement and Compliance
  • Lands under Council Jurisdiction
  • Transport Services
  • Waste Services.

These are available for review from the Have Your Say section on Council’s website.

All of Council’s currently adopted policies can be viewed on Council’s website at https://bega.pulsesoftware.com/Pulse/Public.aspx?page=publicpolicies
