Bega Valley Museum Advisory Committee

The Bega Valley Museum Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations for developing and creating effective networks and partnerships between Bega Valley Shire museum users and the community.


The Bega Valley Shire LGA is currently home to ten (10) public, volunteer run, not for profit historic heritage management organisations as follows:

  • Ben Boyd History Centre (Private)
  • Eden Killer Whale Museum (Council)
  • Mary Mackillop Museum Eden (Private)
  • Bega Pioneers’ Museum (Council)
  • Bega Valley Genealogy Society Pambula (Council)
  • Merimbula Old School Museum (Council)
  • Pig and Whistle Fleet Club Tathra Wharf Museum (Council)
  • Bermagui Historical Society Heritage Museum within Bermagui Community Centre (Council)
  • Montreal Goldfields (Council)
  • Cobargo District Museum (Private)

At Council’s Ordinary Meeting of 25 November 2020 Council resolved to convene an initial meeting within 6 months to resolve with each committee, maintenance issues and rental and to develop an ongoing maintenance schedule.

At the initial meeting held on 20 May 2021 it was decided to hold a meeting twice per year. The Bega Valley Shire Museum Advisory Group is chaired by Council and provides advice and recommendations for developing and creating effective networks and partnerships between Bega Valley Shire Council museum users and the community. The Group provides a focus on ensuring the effective long-term operation, maintenance, renewal and upgrade of the Shire’s Museums.

The Groups objectives are as follows:

  • provide a forum for engagement, consultation, and communication with museum users.
  • develop a shared understanding of the maintenance, renewal and upgrade needs for each Museum facility.
  • contribute to future maintenance, renewal, and upgrade considerations; and
  • contribute recommendations for grant funding opportunities.
