Bega Valley Shire Council will step in as interim operator at the Bega War Memorial Swimming Pool following the current operator’s decision to wrap up their time as managers of the facility.

Council’s Aquatic and Leisure Facilities Coordinator, Nic Hoynes said Council will commence running the popular pool in the interim while plans to re-develop the site get underway.

“Zoe and Mark Philipzen, with their dedicated team and extensive program delivery have consistently delivered exceptional service above industry standards throughout their time at the pool,” Mr Hoynes said.

"Our intention is to uphold the excellent service the community has come to expect from the Bega War Memorial Swimming Pool and we thank Zoe and Mark Philipzen and their team for setting such a high standard.

“We are working with the Philipzens to get a good understanding of the regular user groups, members, programs and bookings in preparation for next season.

“With the future re-development of the pool in the early project development stage, it makes sense for Council to operate the pool until we have a new and exciting facility for the Bega community.”

Mr Hoynes said the next step is to engage with the existing pool staff and plan for additional recruitment if needed.

“If anyone is interested in joining the team, please subscribe to Council’s Job Alert to be notified of upcoming employment opportunities,” he said.

“We will also have various industry training courses coming up during the off season at the Sapphire Aquatic Centre to gain the necessary qualifications. Please visit the Centre’s website or Facebook page to keep up to date.

“We can also confirm that our Cobargo pool operator, Jim Gustard, will continue to manage the Cobargo Swimming Pool and provide a high level of service to the local community.

“We look forward to being ready to reopen next spring for another excellent season.”
