Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking feedback via a short survey from local landowners interested in hosting or considering installing a public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station on their property.

Council’s Economic Development Officer, Peter Wild said EV use is growing in the shire and so is the need for EV charging stations.

“We are keen to ensure EV charging stations are in locations that suit users and our community, whether it be on Council-owned public land or private properties,” Mr Wild said.

“Once we get an idea of the number and placement of privately owned EV charging stations across the shire, we can be strategic in allocating public land for EV charging.”

Mr Wild said there are two NSW government EV charging grant programs private landowners might be interested in - Fast Charging Grants and Destination Charging Grants.

Fast Charging Grants are for 175kW or 350kW chargers. Interested landowners need to complete an expression of interest with the NSW Office of Climate and Energy,” Mr Wild said.

“This funding is available to commercial charging operators who will negotiate with prospective hosts.

Destination Charging Grants are for the slower chargers, 7kW or 22kW, at destinations such as accommodation, tourist attractions, shopping centres and information centres.

“The next round of funding for these will open in mid-2023.”

The Have Your Say survey for EV charging stations opened today and closes on 12 March.
