Community Engagement Strategy

This Community Engagement Strategy 2025-29 provides a framework for Council to interact effectively, ensuring the voices of our residents are heard and valued in the decision-making process.

Community Engagement Strategy

Bega Valley Shire Council is dedicated to fostering a culture of meaningful community engagement to achieve better and more sustainable outcomes for the community.

Council aims to strengthen local community networks and rebuild an engaged, positive, trusting and respectful relationship with the community.

The Community Engagement Strategy 2025-29 is central to Council’s community engagement framework, which aims to give the community a clear understanding of:

  • Council’s commitment to engaging with the community
  • how we will seek and respond to community input
  • the types of engagement that suit the various activities
  • how community input is used in decision-making
  • how community involvement shapes our actions.

Council wants the community to be well informed about issues and decisions that could affect their way of life and is confident that feedback received helps inform Council’s decisions, plans and actions.

The strategy integrates several of Council’s legislative requirements for community engagement, including requirements under the Local Government Act 1993 and Crown Land Management Act 2016. The Community Participation Plan is a subsection of the strategy, meeting the requirements of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
