Bega Valley Shire Council will soon commence the tender process for the removal of hazardous trees near the Princes Highway in Eden.
14 August 2024
Bega Valley Shire Council will soon commence the tender process for the removal of hazardous trees near the Princes Highway in Eden.
Assets and Operations Director, Ian Macfarlane said the identified trees were confirmed as being unsafe following inspections by an independent qualified arborist.
“Community members alerted Council staff about a number of potentially dangerous trees adjacent to the Princes Highway, between Irene Crescent and Linton Street, and arborists have since visited the site for thorough inspections,” Mr Macfarlane said.
“The arborists have concluded that the large old cypress and pine trees present a very high risk to persons and property. They overhang the road and footpath, are in a poor state of health and are unlikely to recover.
“Any failure of limbs or trees in this location puts road users, pedestrians and private property occupants in danger.
“We do not take decisions to remove trees lightly and we know it can be upsetting, but we need to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the shire.”
Council thanks the community for their understanding and will ensure they stay informed as the removal progresses.
