Bega Valley Shire Council recently farewelled Chris Stokes and Tony Smith after a combined 77 years of exceptional service to the Bega Valley community.
Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Anthony McMahon, said both staff members undertook several roles throughout their careers with Council, often doing the type of work most noticeable to the community.
“Chris worked with Council for 39 years, and Tony for 38 years, and were most recently doing roadside vegetation maintenance works, critical to reducing bushfire risk, improving drainage on the road network, improving the road safety environment and ensuring that wildlife was visible to motorists,” Mr McMahon said.
At the farewell barbeque, staff presented both Tony and Chris with toy versions of their ideal tractor as well as other gifts.
Mr McMahon paid tribute to the service of both Tony and Chris. “These guys have dedicated their careers to making the Bega Valley a nice and safe place to live,” he said.
“They exemplify the type of commitment that makes our community such an attractive place.
“Chris and Tony leave big boots to fill and will be greatly missed. We wish them all the best for the future.”
