Work has commenced to repair damage sustained by Council’s Leisure and Recreation assets in the June 2016 East Coast Low storm event.

After exhausting options for external support for storm repairs, Council resolved to undertake high and medium priority works including removal, repair or renewal of damaged assets using Council funds.  Contracts have been let to undertake the necessary works.

Works will include:

  • removal & disposal of unrepairable assets such as Wallaga Lake boardwalk and Tathra foreshore footbridge
  • replacing and repairing damaged surfacing, such as playground soft fall and netball courts
  • replacing unrepairable, damaged furniture in parks & reserves
  • repairing damaged concrete & masonry structures such as Blue Pool, Bermagui and Fishpen steps, Merimbula
  • repairing the shark net at Bruce Steer Pool, Bermagui
  • renewing and repairing beach access tracks and fencing in Bermagui, Tathra, Merimbula and Pambula

Works are scheduled for completion in early December.  Any remaining priority works will be completed early in 2017.

Proposals for assets which cannot be readily replaced such as the Wallaga Lake boardwalk and Tathra foreshore footbridge will be developed for community consultation in 2017.
