A strategic plan for the Bega Valley Regional Gallery until 2020 has been adopted by the Bega Valley Shire Council.

A report to Councillors this week said the Gallery is one of the primary ways cultural services are provided by Council, contributing to the achievement of Council’s cultural vision, mission and guiding principles.

The Gallery curator, Iain Dawson, said the Strategic Plan is important because it provides a broad framework, long-term goals and sets priority areas for the Gallery over the next four years.

It also helps to inform the community of the Gallery's future direction and puts Council in a position to apply for multi-year funding through the State Government and a number of grants at a Federal level – which all require the adoption of a strategic plan.

Mr Dawson said the Gallery contributes both economically and culturally to a number of key strategic directions set by Council.

“It is a lean, yet aspiring player in the regional gallery field,” he said.

“We recognise that the best outcome for the community is to conceive and deliver a program that focuses on our strengths.

“The Bega Valley Regional Gallery Strategic Plan 2016-2020 provides the framework to deliver that program which is a testament to Council’s vision that they recognise the importance of the arts to a healthy and sustainable community.”
