End of Term report captures an extraordinary five years
MEDIA RELEASE 2021 - Council has released the End of Term report, marking the fifth and final year of the Council elected in 2016 and a period of vast and extreme challenges for the community.

Bega Valley Shire Council has released the End of Term report, marking the fifth and final year of the Council elected in 2016 and a period of vast and extreme challenges for the community.
The report, a requirement under the Local Government Act, summarises the achievements and progress of the last term of Council in implementing the Community Strategic Plan.
Acting CEO, Anthony McMahon said adaptability and sheer hard work had enabled Council and the community to take on the challenges of the past five years and emerge as a stronger community.
“When the Community Strategic Plan was adopted in 2017, there was no way to predict the unprecedented succession of natural disasters and subsequent pandemic that would befall our community,” Mr McMahon said.
“Three major bushfire disasters, multiple significant flooding events and a once-in-a-generation global pandemic have collectively tested the resolve of our community like no other time in recent history.
“While Council set out on a considered path, adapting and pivoting has been vital to ensure we were able to support our community in the most effective and efficient way possible.
“On behalf of our former General Manager, Leanne Barnes and myself, I would like to extend our appreciation to all Councillors, including those who served as Mayor, for their leadership and support during a term that was extended twice as a result of the pandemic.
“I also want to thank our staff who have continued to work diligently to deliver on Council’s strategic direction and implement the many projects, programs and services to our community.
“Their dedication, passion and professionalism have been profound, and I thank them for all they have done over these past five years to support our community.”
