A Citizenship ceremony held yesterday in the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre welcomed 28 new Australian citizens.
The citizens were presented with a Certificate of Australian Citizenship in front of family members and friends.
The origins of our newest citizens include Lebanon, France, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Philippines, Nigeria, Thailand, Spain, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick congratulated the shire’s newest citizens and on behalf of the community, wished them all the very best for their new lives as Australians.
“Taking the steps to become a citizen of Australia and making the pledge of commitment are important expressions of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“We trust the ceremony was an enjoyable memory to be cherished by our newest citizens as a special moment marking the beginning of their lives as Australian citizens.”
For further information on how to apply to become an Australian Citizen, contact the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs on 131 880 or visit the Department’s website.
