Medical Waste

Needles, syringes and unwanted medicines dispose options.

Unwanted or old medicine

Storage of expired and unwanted medicines in the home can be dangerous and unsafe disposal can lead to environmental damage. There is a free and convenient way to dispose of your unwanted medicines responsibly via your local pharmacy through the Return Unwanted Medicines (RUM) Program. Your pharmacist will put your medicines in a secure bin for collection and safe disposal.

Needles and Syringes

To reduce the risk of harm to others as well as to our environment, DO NOT put sharps in your household waste, recycling bin or public litter bin. Needles, syringes, pen needles, lancets and similar can be dropped off at:

  • Bega South East Hospital – Mckee Drive, Bega – (02) 6492 9111
  • Pambula Health Service – Merimbola Street, Pambula – (02) 6495 8200
  • Eden Community Health – 143 Imlay Street, Eden – (02) 6496 1436
