Bega Valley Shire Council is inviting community feedback after resolving to place its new draft Delegations Policy on public exhibition.

“A delegations policy is a key governance tool that sets out how decision-making powers are assigned across Council,” Business and Governance Director, Iliada Bolton said.

“It ensures decisions are made legally, efficiently and by the right people, which in turn helps us deliver better services and maintain transparency and accountability to our community.

“We’ve worked closely with legal experts and our peers in local government to shape this updated policy, making sure it not only meets legal requirements but also reflects best practice across the sector.

“A revised Delegations Manual and an updated Instrument of Delegation to the CEO have been developed as part of this review.

“These documents aim to clarify roles and responsibilities, improve efficiency and strengthen governance across the organisation.”

The draft Delegations Policy will be on public exhibition for 28 days, with community feedback extended to 42 days to ensure everyone has time to share their views.

If no submissions are received, the policy will be formally adopted and published on Council’s website alongside the Delegations Manual and Instrument of Delegation.

Under the Local Government Act 1993, councils must review their delegations within 12 months of an election.

To view and comment on the draft policy, visit Council’s Have Your Say webpage.

Submissions are invited until 21 May 2025.
