Renewal of ageing watermains across the Bega Valley.
Areas of the Bega Valley have ageing watermains that can affect the reliable supply of clean drinking water. This project aims to renew water mains to reduce long-term risks and ensure a secure, high-quality, and reliable water supply for the Bega Valley. Ageing watermains in the Bega township, particularly those installed before 1960, have been identified as high risk and are a priority for renewal.
Council plans to replace approximately four kilometres of these older mains as part of a broader renewal program. The project will also address undersized and problematic watermains across the wider Bega Valley region.
The aim of the project is to renew and upgrade ageing water mains, particularly those installed before 1960, with works extending beyond the Bega township to water infrastructure across the Bega Valley.
Council is responsible for the delivery of safe, secure, efficient, sustainable and affordable water to customers in the Bega Valley in accordance with the NSW Local Government Act 1993 and NSW Water Management Act 2000.
Funding for the project is sourced from Council’s Sewer and Water fund at $1.75 million per year.
This project aligns with Bega Valley Shire Council Community Strategic Plan through:

During the works phase, some customers may experience occasional water supply interruptions and some turbidity. We will provide advance notification to any customers likely to be impacted while works are underway.
New water mains improve water flow and water pressure ensuring consistency in water delivery to customers. New watermains also increase reliability reducing the risk of water interruptions from old watermain breaks.
