The first phase of Bega Valley Shire Council’s ‘Understanding Our Place’ survey is complete, and the community has really responded to the opportunity.
Council has held over 25 events including community drop in sessions at local halls and markets and CBD listening posts.
General Manager Leanne Barnes said the purpose of this first phase of consultation was to understand what was important to people within our community, to understand their values, challenges and ambitions for the future.
“We are thrilled with the response from the community, with over 1,500 surveys completed,” Mrs Barnes said.
“This positive response demonstrates the commitment our community has to this place and the future of the people within it.”
Council is now reviewing the feedback and the issues raised.
“This information will directly guide our second stage of consultation which will draw on focus groups,” Mrs Barnes said.
Stage two of the consultation will commence in October.
“I am keen for people to see their feedback and ideas reflected in the final document, which will be released early next year,” Mrs Barnes said.
“We are all busy and time is precious, so thank you to all those who stopped to talk to Council staff or fill in the online survey,
“I am also very grateful to the team here at Council who saw the value in doing this work and volunteered their time,” Mrs Barnes said.
The end result is the Community Strategic Plan 2040 which will be released for comment in early 2017 and will help shape the direction of Council’s work and spending for the next 4 years.
