Volunteering with the Bega Valley Shire Council can provide you with an opportunity to do something positive for your local community.

We engage more than 450 volunteers in a wide range of roles and programs, and recognise the unique skills, strengths, experiences, and passion volunteers bring to our organisation.

Did you know that the Bega Valley Shire Council has over 36,000 residents, and most of these people reported being a volunteer in 2021?

We value our volunteers, and the contribution they make to our community. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in your lives and the lives of others. It’s a great way to develop skills, create new social networks, meet like-minded people and be actively engaged in the community.

We offer several opportunities for volunteering. View opportunities to volunteer with Council below:

Bega Valley Shire Council is a Child Safe Organisation; some volunteer roles in council may require a working with children check. For more information please vist the following site

Everyone who submits an EOI application will be contacted by one of our volunteer supervisors.

We will work in with you to arrange a time to come in for an interview where we will have the opportunity to discuss the role that you have applied for,

discuss your goals from volunteering and some of the practical things related to the role such as available days, times and any skill or training required of the role.

Everyone who attends an interview will be contacted by phone to discuss the outcome of your application.

In the event that we don’t have an appropriate role for you we will refer you to other volunteering opportunities in the local community.

Your supervisor will be in touch with you to arrange your program and role induction.

This will include an introduction to your colleagues and program staff, day to day task instructions along with access to our volunteer handbook,

Council’s policies, and procedures, WHS training and any information relevant to the program and role.

After completing the above you and your supervisor will sign an agreement verifying all training/requirements completed for the role.

Once these have been completed you will be signed up as a Bega Valley Shire Council volunteer.

During your volunteering role with Bega Valley Shire Council, you will be provided with ongoing support, opportunities to attend training and connect with your colleagues at celebration and recognition events.

We encourage you to let us know how things are going, successes you’ve had and any challenges you are experiencing.

The better experience you have as a volunteer, the better the outcomes will be for our whole community.
