To upgrade the boat ramp, pontoon and carparking area at Bermagui Harbour and to improve the overall use of the site.
The Bermagui Harbour Boat Ramp Upgrade project includes:
The project will be designed and constructed within environmental and heritage regulations
The overarching purpose of this project is to improve the standard of this recreational boating facility, utilised by locals and visitors alike.
The Bermagui Harbour Boat Ramp is one of the Bega Valley Shire Council’s busiest boat ramps with hundreds of boating users visiting the region to take part in fishing competitions or to enjoy the fabulous waters off Bermagui.
Noting the popularity of this facility, it is Council’s intention to improve its function and safety and to provide the most up to date facilities to encourage improved use and visitation to the region.
Total project funding: $1,233,615
Feedback from the Bermagui area in response to the ‘Understanding Our Place’ community engagement process, which subsequently informed the Community Strategic Plan (CSP), included ‘improved recreation facilities and spaces’. This feedback links to CSP Outcome 1 Active and Healthy Communities; specifically, the second goal of this outcome of ‘access to good quality recreation and sporting facilities’.
The concept design for this project is attached for your information. Council has liaised with key stakeholders within the Bermagui fishing and boating community to develop this concept design to ensure that what is being designed will best serve the boating community.

Yes. The boat ramp will be closed during construction of the upgraded facility, from Monday 26 June to late-August 2023.
The project includes the following works:
Key stakeholders within the Bermagui boating and fishing community have been consulted on the draft Concept Design.
The stakeholders included members from the following groups:
While the works are underway, people are asked to launch their boats at the Bermagui River boat ramp, approximately 1.5 km away. Please note ocean access can be limited by bridge clearances.
Contractors, GPM Marine Constructions will carry out the works.
The project is jointly funded with Transport for NSW contributing $660,122 through their NSW Boating Now program and Bega Valley Shire Council contributing $220,040.
Line marking will be incorporated to improve traffic flow and delineation of parking spaces and pedestrian paths.
It is unlikely that pedestrians and cyclists will have access to the boat ramp and pontoon areas during construction of the upgraded facility.
It is anticipated that pedestrian and cyclist access to the Bruce Steer Pool will continue during the construction period with the Bruce Steer Pool remaining open during this time.
