Seniors Festival grants opening soon

Bega Valley Shire Council is offering grants of up to $1,000 for community groups interested in running events as part of the 2017 NSW Seniors Festival.

Monday 17 October 2016

Bega Valley Shire Council is offering grants of up to $1,000 for community groups interested in running events as part of the 2017 NSW Seniors Festival.

The Festival, formerly known as NSW Seniors Week, runs from March 3 to 12 2017.

Community Development Coordinator, Anne Cleverley said there was an overwhelming response from groups interested in holding Seniors Festival events in 2016 and in response, Council has increased the funding pool available for 2017 .

“The grants can be used to organise events and activities which thank, recognise and celebrate seniors for the role they play and the positive contributions they make in the community,” Ms Cleverly said.

“We’re encouraging people to plan activities in their towns and villages which promote health, wellbeing and happiness for seniors.

“We welcome ideas from smaller communities for simple ideas that bring seniors together, and equally from groups who have ideas for larger events that attract good crowds,” she said.

Council’s Seniors Festival grants are designed to help groups cover some of the costs associated with organising activities. Council’s Place based Officers are available to help groups formulate their ideas and Council will also support groups with publicity and promotion as part of a Shire-wide calendar of Events.

Applications must be received by 21 November 2016
