UPDATE - the aircraft has been removed and the runway deemed safe so the airport has reopened.

A light aeroplane made an emergency landing on the runway at Merimbula Airport earlier today.

All persons are safe, with no injuries or fatalities reported.

The aircraft remains on the runway undergoing a safety assessment.

Until it is removed and the condition of the runway is confirmed, all incoming flights will be diverted and outgoing flights will be delayed.

Council advises passengers with flight enquiries to contact Merimbula Airport.

Merimbula Airport management and Bega Valley Shire Council are following established safety protocols and are working closely with relevant authorities.

Airport management is also liaising with airlines to manage disruptions and support affected passengers.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this time.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
