Library services in the Shire are expanding to include the Tura Marrang Library and Community Centre which will officially open on Saturday 25 June.
Director Community, Relations and Leisure, Anthony Basford said that with the Tura Marrang Library and Community Centre opening Council will have four full service libraries back in operation throughout the Shire, as well as a library portal operating in Merimbula resulting in improved library services to residents.
"We are pleased to be able to keep the Merimbula Library Portal open for the foreseeable future,” he said.
“The Merimbula Library Portal will continue to operate on the same days but with a change in hours. The Portal will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am - 1pm and these hours will take effect from Monday 6 June.”
Library Team Leader, Samantha Fenton said that library staff are looking forward to offering full library services and expanded programs to the residents of the central part of the Shire through the Tura Marrang facility.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience in waiting for the Tura Marrang Library to be completed, and very soon the residents of Tura and Merimbula will have a new library, community centre and library portal to service their needs,” she said.
The Merimbula Library Portal will continue to provide a selection of services to residents including a library reserve pickup/drop off service, free Wi-Fi and computer access, printing services as well as a reading and study space.
Hard copies of the Merimbula News Weekly newspaper will be available for reading at the Portal.
Library users can search the online library catalogue at the Portal and request books and other materials to be sent there for pickup. The library will notify users by phone, email or SMS when items are ready to be collected.
Items on loan from any Shire library, including the library at Tura Marrang can be returned to the Merimbula Library Portal during its open hours or through the after-hours returns box which will remain in its current location outside the Bega Valley Regional Learning Centre.
