Bega Valley Shire Council advises road resealing works will be carried out in Mount Darragh, Merimbula and Pambula this week, weather permitting.

Councils Director of Assets and Operations, Ian Macfarlane explains why resealing of roads is important.

“Resealing work plays an important role in renewing the life of the bitumen seal that deteriorates over time. If Council waits too long to reseal roads, the surface starts to crack and break up, water gets in and then the whole road starts to fall apart which is much more expensive and time consuming to repair and rebuild,” Mr Macfarlane said.

“In addition, resealing also ensures the road surface maintains adequate friction resistance which assists in keeping roads safer for all users.”

From Tuesday 18 February to Thursday 20 February, road resealing will be carried out on Mount Darragh Road.

On Thursday 20 February, road resealing will be carried out on King Street, Apoona Street, Imlay Street and Tantawangalo Street in Merimbula.

On Friday 21 February, road sealing will be carried out on Cliff Street, Yarai Street, Princess Lane, Wharf Street and Wyeebo Street in Merimbula, and Bega Street and Toallo Street in Pambula.

Local contractors will be carrying out the works between 7am and 6pm each day.

There will be no on-street parking during working hours.

Traffic conditions will be in place for the duration of the works. Road users should expect delays.

Traffic control will be on-site to help motorists and pedestrians. Where possible, please advise the crew members on-site of where you need to go and assistance will be provided.

Council thanks the community for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
