Opportunity to build a career in construction with Council traineeships

Bega Valley Shire Council has secured NSW Government funding to offer six civil construction traineeships to school leavers and young people seeking a career change.

Bega Valley Shire Council has secured NSW Government funding to offer six civil construction traineeships to school leavers and young people seeking a career change.

"This is an incredible opportunity for anyone considering a career in a field that offers endless possibilities," Council’s CEO, Anthony McMahon said.

"The Certificate III traineeships will span two-years and will be conducted in partnership with a registered training organisation.

"Our highly experienced and supportive civil construction team will provide on-the-job training at various locations within the shire.

"These traineeships present an excellent chance for anyone wanting to start a successful career in the construction industry without having to leave this beautiful part of Australia.”

Mr McMahon said the trainees will work with and learn from former trainees who now hold senior positions.

"We are immensely proud of our former trainees who are integral members of our construction teams, some serving as supervisors and team leaders, and others having progressed their careers into other areas including engineering" Mr McMahon said.

"Their journey from trainees to leadership positions exemplifies the potential for growth and advancement within our organisation.

"Learning the fundamentals of civil construction, including machinery operation, can lay strong foundations for many career paths, including design, drafting and engineering.

"We have already been out and about visiting local high schools, where students have had the opportunity to chat with former trainees who have progressed to more senior positions.

“We have also reached out through Local Aboriginal Land Councils and strongly encourage young Aboriginal people in the community to apply.

“Several of our former trainees have also shared their stories and experiences in a range of short videos that will be available on our Facebook page and website.

"And while these positions are particularly suited for school leavers, we encourage any young person considering a career change to apply.”

All trainee positions are targeted at 16-24 year-olds and are fully funded by the NSW Government under the Regional Youth Investment Program.

Three apprenticeships in the Water and Sewer and Fleet Facilities are also available.
