Bega Valley Shire Council is pleased to announce the launch of a new guide to the development application process, now available on Council's website.

Council’s Planning and Sustainability Manager, Cecily Hancock said the resource provides an overview of the development journey for residents, providing essential information and practical advice.

“While this initiative aims to support residents affected by natural disasters to navigate the often-challenging process of rebuilding their homes, this guide will assist anyone working through the development application process,” Ms Hancock said.

By following the guide, users can avoid potential complications, ensure all necessary information is gathered from the start and ultimately save time and money.

“We believe it will be a valuable tool in making the development application process more accessible and less daunting for everyone involved.”

Key features of the guide include:

  • Step-by-step instructions for obtaining consent for rebuilding, renovating or building from scratch
  • The development application pathways (exempt, complying development and development applications)
  • Who is involved in the development application process
  • Tips on preparing and submitting a complete application
  • Insights on common pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Emphasis on the importance of understanding and adhering to relevant state and Council requirements.

“We've also added three brief videos to our DA Process webpage that offer insights into our development support services, the fast-track approval pathway of complying development, and the DA Guide," Ms Hancock said.

“The DA Guide will be a useful resource, however obtaining professional advice from Council or an independent provider such as a town planner, building designer or architect is still highly recommended to verify project specific requirements.”

The DA Guide and videos have been prepared with funding from the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery grants program provided by the Australian Government.

To access the guide and watch the videos, visit the DA Process – Your guide webpage.
