Bega Valley Shire Council is holding the last Wilderness to Water guided walking tour at the Bemboka River Reserve on Saturday 18 March from 10am to 1.30pm.
Council’s Environmental Management Officer, Erin Moon said the tour series gives walkers the opportunity to discover the environmental and cultural significance of some of the most beautiful trails the shire has to offer.
“We’ve had keen walkers learn about and explore the Merimbula Boardwalk, Murunna Headland on Wallaga Lake and Lake Curalo Boardwalk in Eden,” Ms Moon said.
“This time, participants will get to explore the Bemboka River Reserve in our final tour of the Wilderness to Water series.
“They’ll explore the endangered vegetation community with botanist Jackie Miles, discover the Aboriginal cultural history with Uncle Graham Moore, learn about Bemboka Landcare achievements with Sally Rowan and discover the unique ecology with field ecologist Meg Clery.
“There will be lunchtime talks on cultural burning, local koala acoustic monitoring, an upcoming platypus project, Bemboka community groups and citizen science.
“Lunch will be provided by a local caterer and there will be nature activities for the kids. This event caters for families, so definitely bring the kids along.”
The Wilderness to Water walking tour series is funded by the NSW Government’s Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program.
