A new gigantic public artwork has popped up at a gateway to Merimbula to showcase local art and the town’s coastal heritage.

Renowned local artist, Stan Squire installed the giant artwork on Friday, which now adorns the Merimbula water tower welcoming locals and visitors arriving via the Princes Highway.

The project is the result of a successful Regional Arts NSW grant application made by Bega Valley Regional Gallery’s Director, Iain Dawson to promote local and regional artists.

“Stan’s work is so well recognised within the coastal communities here on the Sapphire Coast, I wanted him to reach as large an audience as possible with this project, while showcasing some of the incredible talent we have here in South East NSW,” Mr Dawson said.

“This work is so detailed, colourful and emblematic of what both locals and visitors alike appreciate about living here, I thought this location would be an excellent ‘welcome’ to Merimbula.”

The project was funded through a grant from Regional Arts NSW, a federally funded peak body and support agency for arts and cultural development in regional NSW.
