Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking a qualified and experienced member of the community to become an independent volunteer member of its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking a qualified and experienced member of the community to become an independent volunteer member of its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

Council’s Risk Management Coordinator, Wayne van der Westhuysen said the person Council is looking for needs to have a strong financial management or audit background and an understanding of accounting and auditing standards in a public sector environment.

“The committee meets four times a year and oversees and monitors the effectiveness of Council in carrying out its obligations for responsible financial management, good corporate governance, maintaining an effective system of internal control, risk management and fostering an ethical environment,” Mr van der Westhuysen said.

“Other desirable skills for this position include legal, governance, risk management, technology or business management.”

When assessing the expressions of interest, the committee will consider the following:

  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Relevant professional knowledge and expertise
  • Understanding of the public sector or local government
  • Understanding the role of corporate governance in organisations
  • Current/prior experience on similar committees in the local government sector.
