Council launches comprehensive waste management guide for households

Households in the Bega Valley will soon receive a new 14-page booklet designed to help with effective waste management at home.
“The booklet will be delivered to every household from next week, bringing essential information right to your doorstep,” Waste Strategy Coordinator, Tim Cook said.
“Inside you will find detailed instructions on what can and cannot be placed in your bins, ensuring we all do our part to reduce contamination and improve recycling rates.
“We’ve also included advice on how to recycle problematic waste items like batteries, lightbulbs and paint, helping you dispose of these materials safely and responsibly.
“Our booklet also highlights the valuable services of our Reuse Shops, where you can save waste disposal fees by donating suitable items to be resold.
“For those seeking even more detailed recycling information, we show you how to access our new and improved online A-Z recycling guide, making it easier than ever to find the answers you need.”
Mr Cook said improved waste education was identified as a key community priority in the recent Waste Services Satisfaction Survey.
“This booklet is a significant step towards enhancing knowledge on waste and recycling practices in the Bega Valley Shire,” Mr Cook said.
“Last year, we landfilled 19,000 tonnes of waste, and our records show waste generation volumes continue to increase each year.
“By empowering residents with the right information and tools, we can collectively reassign a large portion of this waste to recycled resources, making a positive impact on our environment and economy.
“We believe that with community support, we can create a more sustainable waste management system that grows with community needs.”
The Bega Valley Waste and Recycling Guide will be delivered to all Bega Valley households with a mailing address next week.
