Waste Prevention and Innovation Grants (maximum of $5,000 per project)

The Waste Prevention and Innovation Grant stream replaces and streams the Community Waste Minimisation Program and Waste Wise Events grants. It is intended to fund projects that address waste, litter, and illegal dumping issues under one or more of the following activity categories:

  • prevention
  • minimisation
  • diversion
  • education
  • innovation

Projects must support the themes and outcomes of the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy 2018-2028.

Background

Bega Valley Shire Council recognises the importance and significance of supporting volunteers, non-profit organisations, community groups, businesses, and education providers in delivering programs and projects that have clear community benefit and align with Council's waste minimisation strategies.

Overall grant program objectives

The Program aims to encourage and assist community involvement in the management of waste minimisation and education for the benefit of the whole region.

Eligibility 

Available to community groups, charitable and not for profit organisations, schools and businesses within the Bega Valley Shire.

Example projects could include:

  • installation of signage, security and CCTV at an illegal dumping hotspot
  • running waste reduction and sustainable living workshops
  • public art installations that highlight appropriate themes
  • initial installations of community collection points for innovative recycling schemes (such as TerraCycle, PlanetArk, Lids4Kids etc.)
  • A community event implementing waste minimisation or education activities above and beyond provision of a three-bin disposal system (landfill, recycling and fogo) at the event

Recovering the costs of waste disposal for normal or special business activities are explicitly excluded for funding under this grant stream.

The application form can be completed online once the grant round opens.
