Ritchies Lagoon Bridge Replacement

Bridge over water.

Project background and purpose

Council will replace the existing single-lane timber bridge over Ritchies Lagoon on Wallagoot Lane, with a new 29m long, two-lane concrete bridge.

The new bridge will be constructed by an experienced contractor, who has completed similar design and construct bridges for other regional councils and is currently constructing the bridge replacement at Dignams Creek.

The new bridge will feature a two-span concrete design, supported by piers within the creek. The spans have been designed to minimise impact to the flow of water in Ritchies Lagoon, meaning the new design will be more resilient to natural disasters such as fire and flooding, ensuring Wallagoot Lane can be reopened sooner following major weather events. The new bridge will also improve traffic flow and will ease future maintenance burden.

Ritchies Lagoon Bridge known locally as Gowings Bridge, as it is adjacent to and overlooked by Gowings dairy. The bridge is a link between across the lagoon, a semi-permanent water feature of the Jellat Jellat Flats.
