Frequently Asked Questions

Any construction-related vehicles over 8 tonne will access the work site using via Calle Calle Street >Chandos Street > Imlay St to avoid the busiest area of the main street.

Engineered granular material will be carted to site to form an improved base material. A 40mm thick asphaltic concrete (AC/Hotmix) overlay will be put down to form the finished surface. Stabilising the existing material using a stabilising agent such as lime is not required.

The walkway will include three ‘breather-platforms’ which will enable pedestrians to take a break as they walk up the hill and take in ocean views.

The upgrade includes the construction of three pedestrian-friendly crossing, including:

  • a new ramp connecting the upper side of Imlay Street to the lower side near Heritage House
  • a new path linking Imlay Street to Museum Street with a raised pedestrian island
  • new kerbside blisters formalising a pedestrian crossing across the road at the bottom of Albert Terrace.

After running a competitive tender process, Council awarded the contract to build Stage 2 to John Michelin and Son.
