Council is building a new, modern water tank in Bemboka to replace the existing reservoir to ensure reliable water supply for the township.
Council is building a new, modern water tank to replace ageing infrastructure in Bemboka. This upgrade will ensure the community continues to have access to clean, safe drinking water to future proof Bemboka’s water supply.
The current 420kL, 15 metre high Permastore tank was constructed in 1988. For nearly four decades, it has played a vital role in supporting the community’s water needs. However, a recent comprehensive assessment found the reservoir has reached the end of its serviceable life. As a result, a full replacement is now necessary.
A fusion bonded epoxy coated tank - similar in size and capacity to the existing one - will be installed. This modern replacement offers improved durability and is designed to last for the next 50 years. The project will deliver long term benefits for Bemboka residents and local businesses by enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the local water supply system.
A budget of $1,810,050 is allocated for the replacement of the Bemboka reservoir through Council’s water fund. Following investigations and successful negotiation with suppliers, we have secured the delivery of the entire project – including commissioning, landscaping and demolition of the old reservoir for a significantly reduced cost of $1,212,950.00. This cost-effective outcome ensures long-term value for the community while supporting essential infrastructure renewal.

Once the new reservoir is up and running, the old one will be decommissioned and safely dismantled. For a short time, both reservoirs will be on site, which may have a temporary visual impact. This is necessary to ensure the town’s water supply and pressure remain stable throughout the construction period.
During construction, the existing reservoir will stay in operation, so no major disruptions are expected. When it's time to switch over to the new tank, there may be some brief interruptions affecting Bemboka residents, local businesses and nearby property owners. We will provide advance notice to all affected properties.
The new reservoir will be a steel bolted tank, similar in size, shape and colour to the current blue tank. While it will be a modern structure, it’s designed to blend in with the existing site and surrounding area.
The new reservoir will be built on the same site as the current reservoirs, positioned just to the north of the existing blue tank. This location allows for a smooth transition while keeping the current reservoir in service during construction.
