Bega Keith Mitchell Oval Floodlighting and Electricity Supply Upgrade

Upgrade sports field lighting to meet current Australian Standards at Keith Mitchell Oval to enable training for hockey and softball.

Bega Keith Mitchell Oval.

Project Summary

This project will upgrade floodlighting to enable training for hockey and provide improved lighting to surrounding oval areas for multi-use recreational activities.

The new lighting for the hockey field will meet Australian Standards to 200 lux level.

Other fields will also have 50 lux lighting upgrades, to meet training level requirements for local football and other multi-sport uses.

The upgrades will allow for more scheduling options for games and training while also increasing the safety of players and spectators.

The two main sports benefiting from the project being hockey and softball are traditionally (and currently) popular with women and girls. Providing safe places with adequate lighting will help overcome a barrier for increased female participation.

Funding

This project is jointly funded by a $500,000 grant through the NSW Government Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Grant Program and a contribution from Bega Valley Shire Council.
