Draft Community Engagement Strategy

Have your say on the 2024-28 Draft Community Engagement Strategy, which sets out a whole of Council commitment to community engagement.

Background

Bega Valley Shire Council values community engagement and has updated its existing Community Engagement Strategy to enhance its interactions with residents. This updated draft Strategy aims to provide the community with information on how they can engage and share their opinions on issues that affect their lives.

Through effective engagement, Council can better understand varied viewpoints, make better decisions, and offer services that meet the community's needs and goals.

The 2024-28 Draft Community Engagement Strategy provides a commitment from Council that the community will be well informed about issues and decisions that could affect their way of life and encourages them to make recommendations to Council. It clarifies how the community can have their say and how input will be utilised to inform Council’s decisions and actions.

The draft Strategy also integrates several of Council’s legislative requirements for community engagement into one document. These include requirements under the Local Government Act 1993 and Crown Land Management Act 2016.

A draft Community Participation Plan (CPP) that clearly explains how people can engage with planning matters forms a subsection of the Strategy. This CPP is a requirement of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
