COVID-19 prompted Tanya Davey (pictured) to start her own business, establishing Sapphire Accounting Solutions in Merimbula in July last year.

Tanya is a registered tax agent and the principal accountant in her business. She has a Bachelor of Accounting and is currently completing the Certified Practising Accountant program with CPA Australia.

Over the last 18 years she has worked across a range of accounting roles, supporting and advising individuals, small businesses, international corporations, federal and state government departments and not-for-profit entities.

Her business offers accounting, bookkeeping, taxation and payroll services tailored to individuals, businesses and community organisations.

Tanya became aware of the breadth of free services on offer through the Business Support Group (BSG) after a chance introduction to BSG member, Simone Eyles from the ReWiRE program.

Through ReWiRE, Tanya accessed financial support and gained help with website development and a social media strategy.

BSG member, Steve Millott from Strengthening Business worked with Tanya on a business plan and connected her with the UOW Australia (Bega Campus) and some potential clients.

Kaye Keogh from the Australian Small Business Advisory Service, another BSG member, is working with Tanya on social marketing.

“I’ve got a website established, I’m more active in the social media space and I’m experimenting with social media advertising,” Tanya said.

“The timing for this support through the BSG has been ideal and we are all systems go for the upcoming tax period.”

BSG members support local businesses with important skills and knowledge that sit outside day-to-day business operations, yet are imperative to running a successful business.
