ClubGRANTS is officially open, and Bega Valley Shire Council and registered clubs in the shire urge local groups to apply for funding for projects and services that contribute to the wellbeing of local communities.

“Each year, community groups come up with great ideas for funding,” Council’s Community Connections Manager, Anne Cleverley said.

“Last year Eden Visitor Information Centre used its grant to supply 22 volunteers with uniforms, which has instilled a feeling of professionalism, improved morale and comradery. Staff and volunteers will also enjoy ergonomic chairs and stools when the new Eden Welcome Centre opens.

“Disability Trust used its grant to create an interactive flaming wings mosaic on the external wall of the PeaNut Eatery, which visitors and locals use to photograph and publish on social media. This stunning mural enhances a Bega wall and celebrates International Day of People With Disability.

“Pambula Fishing Club felt the need for a defibrillator to be located at the clubhouse, clearly signposted. With oyster farmers, locals and busloads of tourists using the nearby ramp and park each day, the Club will be able to look after emergency requirements if the need arises.”

Eligible organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 for projects that improve community wellbeing and address social issues in the Bega Valley Shire.

Chairperson of the Bega Valley ClubGRANTS Committee and General Manager of Bermagui Country Club, Robert Beuzeville said almost $80,000 in funding was shared by 29 recipients last year.

“We understand how important these grants are for the many not-for-profit community groups, sporting organisations and charities in the Bega Valley, and we know from experience it is money well spent,” he said.

Funding for the Bega Valley Shire is provided by five registered clubs - Bermagui Country Club, Club Bega, Club Sapphire Merimbula, Eden Fishermen’s Recreation Club and the Merimbula RSL.

ClubGRANTS, managed by Bega Valley Shire Council, is a shared State Government and club industry program, funded by a gaming machine tax on registered clubs with gaming machine profits in excess of $1 million.

Applications under the ClubsGRANTS Category 1 funding scheme are open until 28 May.
