Bega Valley Shire Council advises works will be carried out on a section of Market Street in Merimbula, from Tuesday 28 May to mid-September 2024, weather permitting.

Local contractors will be working on the second stage of retaining wall slope remediation and drainage upgrades between the Merimbula boardwalk and Short Street, from 7am to 6pm each weekday.

For the duration of the works, changed traffic conditions will be in place for Market Street, Short Street, Cabarita Place and Monaro Street.

Market Street will be reduced to single lane traffic throughout construction works between 7am to 6pm each weekday, with possible temporary intermittent road closures. During this time, road users are advised to expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

A road closure will be in place at the Short Street and Market Street intersection, with a detour in place along Cabarita Place, exiting onto Monaro Street.

The footpath running adjacent to properties on Market Street will be closed to pedestrians south of the Short Street intersection to north of Merimbula boardwalk carpark. The footpath on the lake side will remain open for pedestrians throughout the project.

Once the construction stage is complete, Council is committed to working with the community and key local stakeholder groups to find a solution to soften the visual impacts of the works through appropriate and achievable landscaping.

Council thanks the community for their patience while these important works are undertaken.

This project is jointly funded by Transport for NSW under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) of the Australian Government and NSW State Government, and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Programme (LRCI).
