The community is invited to see firsthand the potential offered by the Bega Valley Learning Centre in Merimbula.
Council is extending an invitation to businesses, community organisations and members of the public to come along on Monday November 7 to explore this new asset and what it might offer our shared future.
Linda Mayo, Learning Centre Coordinator said the open day was an opportunity for the community to see what the building looks like and to highlight the many uses of the unique spaces it provides.
“The University of Wollongong and South Coast Careers College are just two of the buildings regular users that will also be there on the day sharing their information,” Ms Mayo said.
One of the centres big early successes is the hair salon training facility.
“The South Coast Careers College is currently using this real world salon to deliver training to 12 people interested in hairdressing, saving them time and travel to places like Moruya and Canberra for similar options,” Ms Mayo said.
The Learning Centre was also the venue for the recent ‘Gamer Dev Jam’ hosted by Into IT Sapphire Coast, which pulled together local artists and computer game developers.
Mayor Kristy McBain is excited by the choices the Learning Centre gives local people and businesses.
“To strengthen our economic prosperity we need to give young people the option to stay in the Valley to pursue education opportunities; this building opens the door to that future,” Cr McBain said.
“And we are seeing that materialise with strong interest from training and education providers.”
Save the date for the Bega Valley Learning Centre Open Day, Monday November 7 from 10am – 12pm.
“We’ll also be starting a co-working space on the day, giving entrepreneurs, artists and mobile business people a base to work from and a chance to network and collaborate,” Ms Mayo said.
The Centre is located on Cabarita Place, Merimbula behind the Lakeview Hotel and houses the Merimbula Library Portal.
