Bega Valley Shire Council’s support for the community through the bushfire recovery and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues, with Councillors recently endorsing fee relief for our sporting clubs and organisations.

These groups pay annual fees for the use of the Council sporting facilities across the Shire based on their levels of use and numbers of participants, however the impact of the pandemic has meant that some sports and competitions are in the midst of a severely shortened season, while others are not taking to the fields at all this year.

Council’s Manager of Leisure and Recreation, John Grady, said submissions received during the advertisement of the 2020-21 Draft Fees and Charges highlighted this situation.

“We remain committed to doing what we can to make things a little easier during these challenging times and this outcome reflects that,” Mr Grady said.

“The fee relief will be applied on a pro-rata basis for seasonal user groups, with the General Manager delegated authority to implement the resolution.

“All our seasonal sporting groups impacted by COVID-19 are encouraged to write to the General Manager to request access to this assistance and outlining the numbers of their registered junior and senior players and season start and finish dates.”
