Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness
The Atlas of Life is a community run wildlife mapping project that aims to record as much of our region's wonderful biodiversity as possible over many years. If you enjoy nature and can take pictures of interesting things you see, you can add your sightings to our database and help everyone learn more about what lives in our place. We have 27 Moderators who will help you identify what you have found and then we send all our sightings to the national biodiversity database - the Atlas of Living Australia. Everyone is welcome to contribute, or just enjoy looking at all the great images of what our community has found. We run BioBlitzes and other activities and workshops with wildlife experts. We have a Field Naturalists group that meets monthly and we work with schools helped by Bournda Environmental Education Centre and the Sapphire Coast Regional Science Hub to run the National Science Week events.
A long term project you can join to record all the changing biodiversity of our special region. The Atlas of Life encourages understanding of our unique environment by exploring it with naturalists and scientists. As we all develop our skills of recording and identification, we are creating a rich online database for community, students and scientists and adding value to the work of our natural resource managers.
The Atlas of Life website has lots of information about what's happening at different times of year and what species to look out for. We share surveyand activity information and the calendar of Atlanats naturalist club meetings. You can find links to our NatureMapr database where all the species records and identification lists are stored.
NatureMapr is our online database where you can create your own illustrated journal of observations, set up and join surveys, events and BioBlitzes. here are a few things you can do:
map your sightings,
create species lists for your favourite places and biodiversity hotspots,
mine the database to compare your records with others across locations,
follow your favourite species,
mark how things change over time,
have fun!
