Three days of sunshine have been welcomed by crews at Bega Valley Shire Council, keen to get the region’s sporting and recreation facilities ready for action again.
The clean-up of storm and flood debris from local parks and sporting fields moves into its next phase next week, allowing some time for areas to dry out.
To date Council’s Town Teams have been focussed on a large amount of initial works to make areas safer on the back of receding flood waters.
More comprehensive clean-up works are now being planned and prioritised.
John Grady, Leisure Services Manager said, “We are very conscious that our clean-up works and equipment don’t create more damage to soggy grassed areas and sporting fields.”
Updated information has been distributed to sporting clubs, with the community asked to check with clubs regarding any weekend fixtures.
“If matches are planned to go ahead I’d ask managers, coaches and referees to inspect fields thoroughly before matches begin,” Mr Grady said.
“Until we complete the clean-up my advice to the community is not to play on fields still covered in debris,
“There is still a real risk to your own health and safety and you might also add to the damage done by our recent weather.” Mr Grady said.
The community will notice Council staff and equipment moving across the Shire next week, crews appreciate the patience and regard shown by residents during this busy time.
