The inaugural Bega Valley Economic Summit has attracted the brightest people from across Australia, who all see the potential of south east NSW.
One of the counties’ leading business and financial commentators, Peter Switzer will oversee the two days as MC and keynote presenter.
Switzer is well known as the host of his own TV show on the Sky Business Channel, as well as being a regular contributor to The Australian newspaper and national radio programs.
“I look forward to sharing good economic news and competitive insights from some of the best business builders I have met,” Mr Switzer said.
Other Summit presenters include:
An initiative of Bega Valley Shire Council, the aim of the Summit is to help local businesses and communities leverage the potential recent investment brings to the region.
A great example of country people creating their own destiny, very much in the spirit of the local farmers who established Bega Cheese in 1899.
Federal, State and Local Government are also part of the equation, investing in bigger, better facilities for transport and tourism by air and by sea in the Bega Valley.
At Eden, over $50 million will be spent enabling the world’s largest cruise ships to pull up alongside the wharf at Snug Cove, adding a new dimension to the town’s holiday appeal.
The project is expected to create 86 ongoing jobs across tourism, hospitality, aquaculture and stevedoring.
Work is expected to be completed by 2018.
At Merimbula the region’s main link to the sky will benefit from a redevelopment totalling almost $6 million.
Larger planes will be able to service the Far South Coast from interstate capitals, while drawing on new international flight routes from Canberra.
Bega Valley Mayor, Cr Michael Britten said both the port and airport upgrade represent a strong future for every town and village in the Shire.
“Delivering improved tourism gateways to grow the industry and open different domestic and overseas markets, will see benefits filter through to the whole community and every business,” Cr Britten said.
The momentum this investment generates is inspiring people to think of the future and their place in it – driving registrations for the Summit at the end of the month.
Jenny Robb, from Kiah Wilderness Tours is the President of the Eden Chamber of Commerce.
“The timing of the Summit is right for the Bega Valley,” Mrs Robb said.
“An exciting time full of opportunity for the Shire.
“This summit, with its’ excellent cast of speakers, is a perfect platform for our members to explore our potential.”
Mal Barnes from Mal’s Pizza Bite is the President of Bega Chamber of Commerce.
"There are so many growth opportunities,” Mr Barnes said.
“Attending events like the Economic Summit is very important in making it happen for you, your family and the region."
James Smith from Sails Real Estate is the President of Merimbula Chamber of Commerce.
“I’d encourage other small business people to register, working together we can build our businesses and see this community prosper,” Mr Smith said.
The Bega Valley Economic Summit will be held on Thursday July 28 and Friday July 29 at the new Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre in Bega.
