Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Cr Russell Fitzpatrick commented today on the lack of NSW Government funding support for the redevelopment of the Eden Wharf area and marina.

“I am deeply disappointed to learn that the NSW Government has not allocated adequate funds to support the crucial redevelopment of the Eden Wharf area and marina. This news comes as a setback for our community and may raise concerns about the feasibility of other planned developments in the area.

“The Eden Wharf area and marina holds significant importance to the Bega Valley Shire as well as the broader region and it's disheartening to see a lack of funding commitment from the state government. Investment in the area will provide numerous benefits, including job creation, increased visitation and spending, and enhanced recreational opportunities.

“As Eden continues to establish itself as a prominent destination for both domestic and international cruise ship passengers, the undeveloped wharf area presents a missed opportunity for revenue generation to benefit the NSW economy. The first impression that disembarking passengers have of our shire should be one that reflects the potential and vibrancy of our community, not an underdeveloped harbour.

“This situation is simply not good enough for our community and I will be seeking a response from relevant ministers to reconsider their decision and to recognise the long-term benefits this project can bring not only to our local residents but also to the broader regional economy.

“We remain committed to supporting development of the Eden wharf area as an important gateway to the Bega Valley. This state-owned asset requires state funding to fully realise its potential as a crowd pleaser and money earner. Our community deserves nothing less,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
