The Access All Areas Film Festival is an innovative film festival coming to Bega thanks to a partnership between Bega Valley Shire Library, The Disability Trust, and Tulgeen, to celebrate the International Day of People with a Disability.
This international program of award winning short films, provided by Bardic Studio, reflects the lived experiences of people with disability and aims to increase access to cinema for all Australians.
The films will be shown with a range of accessibility features including audio description, open captions and a kit for sensory screening with a social story. The program is free of flashing lights, there will be a dedicated chill space and the venue is suitable for people with a mobility disability.
Programs and Partnerships Officer, Scott Baker said that the Festival is an opportunity for people with disability to attend a major social event specifically designed with their needs in mind.
“Everyone loves a good movie and now for the first time in the Valley, we have an inclusive film festival that truly reflects the diversity of our communities,” he said.
The Festival consists of two programs. The Children’s Program is designed so that families can enjoy a relevant and accessible movie experience together and the Main Program will show seven outstanding films from Australia, Iran, Finland, Holland and Italy, taking audiences on an exceptional journey of suspense, romance, hilarity and new perspectives.
The Access All Areas Film Festival will be held on Saturday 2 December, starting at 12noon with a barbeque supplied by Tulgeen and activities presented by The Disability Trust, in Bega’s Littleton Gardens.
Films will be shown in the Gulaga Room in the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre with the Children’s Program starting at 1pm and the Main Program at 2.30pm.
The Access All Areas Film Festival was launched in 2007, last year the Festival was shown across 61 local communities.
