Bega Valley Shire Council representatives attended a compulsory conference at the Industrial Relations Commission in Sydney yesterday.

The United Services Union requested the conference in support of its members, who had expressed concerns with the proposed Council restructure.

The Commission asked Council to provide further explanation on specific changes to positions directly impacted by the restructure, and has requested that the information be provided to both the Commission and the Union within 48 hours.

The Commission did not issue any formal orders, and has given Council permission to commence recruitment activity to fill vacant positions.

Council is confident that it can now move forward and finalise the required organisation structure changes.  Council acknowledges that change is difficult and will continue to provide support to affected employees through the change process.
