Monday, 10 July 2017
Fourteen projects designed to restore and protect the local environment have received financial backing from Bega Valley Shire Council.
The Community Environment Grants are now in their sixth year, since 2011 fifty five projects across the Shire have been actioned, worth $233,000.
The program is funded through the Environmental Levy with a total of $50, 000 allocated to each year.
The aim is to enhance, protect and restore the natural environment of the Shire, taking in wetlands, coastal foreshores, river banks, and wildlife corridors, as well as supporting innovative community education initiatives.
This year ‘Atlas of Life’ successfully secured a grant to use smart phone technology that will allow locals to undertake citizen science around threatened species and weeds.
